Chile 2019

Since late October 2019, the population in Chile has been calling for fundamental reforms to address the social injustices that still reign since the Pinochet military dictatorship.

The police has been very hard on the demonstrators. More than 2808 injured, of which 232 people have lost their eyes through gun shots with plastic bullets. The figures have been published by the National Chilean Institute for Human Rights (www.indh.cl, 25th November 2019). Many pictures are remember the times of the military dictatorship.

We are in contact with a group of medical students from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Santiago de Chile (USACH, https://usach.cl/facultades/facultad-ciencias-medicas), who provides first aid to the injured (https://cetram.org/). Even their work is massively disturbed by the police, as the following videos prove:

In one case, the students have provided first aid to a man who has suffered a cardiac arrest. During the treatment they were attacked by the police and could not continue. The man did not survive.

Therefore, we have decided to launch a donation initiative to support the medical care of the injured victims of police violence.

Donations with the keyword „Chile“ are forwarded directly to the University of Santiago’s medical faculty, so that the groups can obtain additional material for emergency care.
